A ‘PUPDATE’ TO MARK OUR SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR OF FOSTERING!

February 12, 2025

About a year ago, Bruno, a 10-month-old mixed-breed pup, arrived in a van with 19 other wagging tails that had traveled from a Texas shelter too crowded to care for them. They were in chilly Wisconsin to meet foster families who would help them find welcoming homes. One of those foster families was Milestone Plumbing.

Bruno launched what is now Milestone Plumbing’s newest line of service: finding homes for abandoned dogs. After Bruno found his forever family, three more pups followed, all from the same Texas shelter that would have euthanized them without a safe place to go.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been a year,” said Milestone Founder Jessie Cannizzaro. “We’re a team of animal lovers, so we’re thrilled we could help find homes for these abandoned dogs. It has shown us that this crazy idea we had a year ago actually works!”

In addition to Bruno, Jessie and the Milestone team welcomed Avery, Stacey and Wyatt, each a different mixed breed with their own personality, temperament, and favorite chew toys. They’re all now with families in the area that send the Milestone team updates about how they’re doing.

Milestone partners with Tailwaggers 911, a volunteer rescue group that matches dogs with foster families and then oversees the process of finding adoptive homes. Milestone is the first business they know of to foster dogs.

Jessie got the idea while attending a business conference in California, where she spotted a puppy in the hotel lobby. She learned that the hotel had invited the puppy, a pug named Otis, to be there. Otis was bringing attention to a local dog-fostering program while also looking for a home of his own. An animal-lover since childhood, Jessie immediately decided to try the idea at Milestone. “The whole team embraced it,” she said.
